We began by stripping off the old paint and removing the original wood trim and wood siding. The new Hunter Green finish was applied to the exterior sheet metal along with the engine bay and door jams. Inside the Wagoneer’s cabin we painted all the required to match metal surface as well. How well? We went so far as to even painting the metal cabin floor Hunter Green before it was covered with new carpeting.
The Carfax and Autocheck of this restored piece confirm the low 78,025 miles listed are original, showing the miles ticking up slowly over the years (we even have a current Actual Mile Title) and no accidents ever reported. Even better, she has, until our purchase, always been a 100% Nevada Grand Wagoneer. Great climate out there with no road salt used……ever. Because of that, without question this Grand’s undercarriage is in very strong condition.
The just applied Hunter Green paint is striking and is the highlight of this ’85. We also updated the front end of her with the preferred later model front grill frame and insert, headlamp dishes and finished up with installing a vintage hood ornament. The wood siding and wood trim are brand new, sourced from Team Grand Wagoneer. A previous owner replaced the tailgate glass at some point and we went ahead and finished the job by replacing not just the front windshield but likewise all the side glass on the Grand Wagoneer. Just the sunroof glass is original with normal ageing. The new whitewall tires have been freshly mounted and wrap around beautifully refinished factory wheels. The balance of exterior chrome and aluminum pieces, including the bumpers, wheel caps, door handles, side mirrors and the luggage rack, while not new still present in beautiful condition with only low mile usage and aging present.
The honey leather interior continues this excellent classic Grand’s presentation. The cabin floor, along with the cargo area floor, sides and interior tailgate areas, all are sporting new carpet. Above it all, the headliner is new. The leather areas of the seats were redyed and the fabric inserts in the seats are original with just light wear/spotting evident. All the seat belts in the Grand are spanking new. The working interior options include power windows (tailgate window operates from dash switch only), power door locks, power seats and the outside power mirrors. Let us not forget the all important and very rare SUNROOF, opening and closing just as it should. The factory cruise control is the only non working feature. It was developed by some madman 40 years ago that even when it did work, had a get out your driver’s license “floating 10 mph accuracy range”. In brief, you wouldn’t use it anyway. The climate controlling heat and air conditioning systems are fully serviced and ready to go. A new AM/FM/CD player has also just been installed.
A good deal of money has also been spent looking after the engine/transmission and electricals. They all been inspected and works sorted, where deemed needed. That includes both the 4 wheel High and 4 wheel Low settings.
